He feels it will harm well developed nations with a strong economic history and only benefit developing, or so-called Third World nations. Use the Internet or Strayer databases to research the U.N. members varying viewpoints on the new environmental bill. To show your professor that you understand relationships in the United Nations, write a paper in which you:

  1. Outline a plan that includes types of negotiation approaches for handling negotiations that will either create a deadlock, an impasse, or a stalemate. Three types of approaches are:
    1. Avoid confrontation
    2. Handle impasses Nibbling
(For more information see the book Secrets of the Power of Negotiating by Roger Dawson)
  2. Compare the United Nations members stances on the new environmental bill.
  3. Examine at least three (3) common stances of opposing U.N. members in which you would need to provide a rebuttal based on your research. Justify your response.
  4. Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment.

What is the United Nations?

The Security Council is a key component of the United Nations international organization. This term paper will use academic and United Nations sources to examine the role of the Security Council in world affairs. United NationsIt will briefly discuss the structure, its responsibility to maintain peace and security in the world, and its coercive and conciliatory powers. This examination will demonstrate that the UN Security Council is an international arbitrator for nations with conflicting interests. Its role is to investigate, negotiate and settle disputes between nations and to maintain the peace and security of the international community. However, this role is often politicized due to the diverse nature of the Council's member nations, or diminished due to the superior economic and military power of the United States. Despite these problems, the Security Council's role as the maintainer of international peace is important and relevant to the entire world community.

What is the United Nations Security Council?

In some respects, the UN Security Council is the most important institution in the world, preserving peace for all humanity and our future. In other ways, it is a bureaucratic, politicized organization that is no longer relevant in a culturally and economically diverse world. While the primary role of the United Nations Security Council is the supervision and execution of activities aimed at maintaining peace, it lacks the cooperation required to effectively address contemporary obstacles to peace such as terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
