The Jodi Arias trial was sensational in that it was one of the first media circuses in the age of social media.

Jodi Arias Trial

  • On June 9, 2008, the body of Travis Alexander was discovered in his home,
  • Alexander was the victim of numerous stab wounds, a slit throat, and a gunshot wound to the head which probably occurred post-mortem.
  • It was later discovered that Alexander had been killed five days earlier.
  • Photographic and digital evidence found at the scene put Ms. Arias there at the time of the murder.

Jodi Arias’ trial began in December 2012 in Maricopa County. Arias claimed that the killing was in self-defense, that Alexander had become enraged after she dropped the digital camera. In May 2013, Arias was found guilty, but the first sentencing phase ended in a mistrial. Eventually, Jodi Arias was sentenced to life without parole. Further controversy surrounded the Jodi Arias trial when her artwork began appearing on eBay, part of a range of social media, including a Twitter account in her name. As a result, the Jodi Arias trial was frequently described as a circus, drawing in thousands via live courtroom feed of the trial.
