Film Appreciation Research Papers

Film appreciatation research papers look at the art of film making. Film can be seen as another form of art. Therefore, it is possible to develop an aesthetic appreciation for film, through the understanding of genre and filmmaking techniques employed in the construction of a motion picture. Many colleges and universities in the United States offer classes in film appreciation, studying the various aspects that classify certain films as art.

Film Appreciation

One aspect of film appreciation is the knowledge of the director. Some directors are considered to be masters, and each one employed various “feels” and techniques that created a style for their film, much in the same way that paintings can be identified by their artist. For example, each brings certain elements to a film that one can easily identify:

  • Alfred Hitchcock
  • John Ford
  • Francis Ford Coppola
  • Stanley Kubrick
  • Steven Spielberg

Motion pictures also employ several different elements that add to the storytelling and symbolism. Music, lighting, editing, camera movement and angle can all combine to create or enhance the action in the particular scene. Film appreciation allows the individual to understand how these elements are put together, and affect what is presented on the screen.

Films are a popular medium and contain aspects that go beyond the simple desire to entertain. Developing film appreciation allows the individual to gain a richer experience when watching a film.
