Cerebral hemorrhage is also recognized under the broader term stroke. Hemorrhage into the brain, commonly caused by uncontrolled high blood pressure, is one of the leading causes of stroke. In this condition, the walls of the artery supplying blood to the brain become thicker and less elastic during episodes of high blood pressure. The forceful burst of blood traveling through the weakened artery can cause the vessel to rupture and the result is blood which leaks into the brain. As the arteries continue to harden, blood flow through the artery becomes increasingly difficult and the process can lead to completely restricted blood flow, as in the case of cerebral infarction.
