Research Papers on the Books of the Bible:
Thessalonians

Books of the Bible: Thessalonians research paper due and don’t know how to start it? How about like this?

The New Testament Books of Thessalonians I and II are letters that Apostle Paul wrote to the church at Thessalonia around 50 A.D. The purpose of these letters was to:

  1. Commend the members of the church for remaining strong and steadfast in the face of persecution
  2. To clear up a misunderstanding within this community regarding the return of Jesus Christ.
  3. Remind the church that he, Silas, and Timothy, in a recent visit, encouraged, comforted, and taught them.
  4. Express his gratitude for their willingness to accept the Word of God and stand firm in the face of distress and persecution.
  5. Urge the community to live a moral, pure, and quiet life filled with self-control, honor, and industriousness.

Thessalonians and Paul

Paul also addressed the issue of the Lord’s return. He reminded the Thessalonians that He would return as a thief in the night, catching many off-guard. However, Paul contended, the members of this church were sons of light and should remain alert and self-controlled. He continued this theme into his second letter, advising the Thessalonians to not become alarmed or deceived by prophecies proclaiming that Jesus had already returned. Instead, he explained that this would not occur until certain events had come to pass. Rebellion would occur and the “man of lawlessness” would be revealed. This false god would exalt himself above all others and set himself up in the temple claiming to be God. While many would be deceived and die due to their love of wickedness over truth, Paul reminded the church that they had been called by God to be saved and thus they should stand firm in their teachings and faith.
