Marxist theories divide into two different views: technological and contingent. Technological views place the ideology of work on the creation of labor markets and the perpetuation of capitalism through advancements in technology.  The contingency view placed the creation of labor markets on displaced workers, such as slaves and obligatory bonds, or by direct coercion. Marxist theory utilizes two of the three reasons that Tilly and Tilly give for why people work, commitment and coercion, but Marxist theory does not lend much credence to compensation theories. While Marxist theories embrace the influence of technology on work, they reject the technological determinism of neoclassical theory in relation to wages. Rather than technology, ones consciousness of his own class and works to protect the economic and political interests.
