Every small business owner has their own story as to why they decided to open their own small business; from flexibility and autonomy to a change in lifestyle and financial reasons. Many have been operating for only a few months, whilst others have been operating for over 20 years. How is each owner operating their own business? And is it as successful as they had anticipated?
Your task is to research the different motivations for starting a small business, and they key decisions owners must make when operating their own small business.

- Methodology -
•Survey at least ten small business operators. Organise, collate and analyse these responses.
•Critically evaluate the responses from your surveys.
•Critically review trade, professional and research journals, books and other relevant publications

1. Identify suggestions by government, trade and professional organisations and small business operators themselves in regards to;
a. the different motivations for starting a small business, and
b. key decisions owners must make when operating their own small business
2. Critically evaluate suggestions and opinions.
- Instructions -
1. Prepare a brief report analysing your survey responses. This will require you to perform simple calculations in respect of the data (i.e. means, medians). The report should not exceed 2 printed pages (plus an appendix for the survey responses and relevant printouts of your analysis)
2. Complete the essay requirements. The essay should not exceed 1,000 words
3. Ensure that the essay includes an introduction, a body and a conclusion.
