Low- Income Children in Early Childhood Research Papers

Low-Income Children in Early Childhood Research Paper:

Read the article. Then complete each of the three parts for this essay. (Each number indicates a separate paragraph within the essay.)

PART 1: DEFINING THE SOCIAL ISSUE

#1: Clearly define and introduce the social issue in your own words. Who is typically included in this population? What is the demographic and/or sociohistorical salience of the issue? Then, in one concise sentence or two, state what the main aim of the intervention is and how it seeks to broadly accomplish this aim.

#2: Next, review the preamble to the code of ethics for the National Association on Social Work (http://www.socialworkers.org/pubs/code/code.asp). State the relevance of the social issue to social work, tying these points explicitly to the NASW’s code of ethics.

PART 2: EMPLOYING UNIDISCIPLINARY THEORIES

#3: Select what you believe to be the one most relevant area of theorizing for understanding the main purpose and potential effectiveness of the intervention: psychodynamic, social-cognitive, attachment, symbolic interactionism, or social capital. Discuss the main ideas and concepts from the selected area of theorizing that most directly tie into program elements and aims. Within this discussion, identify the main level or levels of the person-environment system that the intervention intends to address.

#4: Select a different area of theorizing (psychodynamic, social-cognitive, attachment, symbolic interactionism, or social capital) and make recommendations based on this theory for an additional program element that would address a different domain or level of the person-environment system related to the social issue. Describe this program element with enough depth to show your deep understanding of this area of theorizing and how the theory offers insights above and beyond those of the theory discussed in paragraph #3.

#5: Discuss the extent to which the program addresses major insights from conflict/radical-critical perspectives. Provide examples of particular elements that demonstrate the use of this theorizing, and/or include recommendations of the specific type of activity that these perspectives would indicate as additionally important measures for assisting individuals facing the social issue.

PART 3: APPLYING MULTIDISCIPLINARY THEORIES

#6: In your own words, state what Lerner means by “probabilistic epigenesis.” Considering this concept, as well as ideas from complex systems theories, discuss what you think would be reasonable expectations for the impact of the program.

#7: In your own words, briefly state the main contributions of Bronfenbrenner’s bioecological systems theory. Then, identify the “nested” level to which the intervention most principally targets, and provide evidence for your choice. Discuss how circumstances in a different level of Bronfenbrenner’s model make deliberate attention to the main level of interest particularly relevant.

#8: Select a primary concept from lifespan/life course perspectives, and describe how this concept could be employed to expand some aspect of the intervention to help it more comprehensively and powerfully frame or achieve its aims.

#9: Discuss whether you find a resilience framework or models of stress and coping more useful for framing the authors’ discussion of the social issue and the intervention. Provide examples of how the authors explicitly or implicitly draw on specific parts of stress and coping models or resilience models, making sure to clearly define these concepts and summarize how they fit into the broader models of which they are part.

#10: Conclude with a statement regarding some aspect of your own personal values regarding the social issue (i.e., a pre-existing assumption you have about some aspect of the issue), and identify how a particular theoretical concept (from any section of this course) challenges or complicates this personal value. Discuss how the integration of your own personal values with this perspective might serve as part of a foundation for optimizing your practice with individuals or groups of individuals facing the social issue.
