How to Write a Literary Analysis Term Papers
How do you start a How to Write a Literary Analysis term paper? Our expert writers suggest like this:
At some point in your academic career, you will receive an assignment that asks you to do a Literary Analysis. Below is an example of a science fiction literary analysis in which you are able to choose your own topic.
Choose one passage from any one of the three stories below and demonstrate how that passage is central to a theme that is explored in the entire story. When choosing a passage that connects to an overall theme you might think about how a central passage relates to other similar scenes, or how characters respond to the passage, or how the passage reveals a profound change in a character, or how the author explores a similar concept but in different ways in other parts of the narrative.
Remember, a Literary Analyses isn’t about how you felt when you read the story nor whether the events could happen in the real world nor whether the events are “realistic “or “far-fetched”; that is of no interest. Rather, the assignment is an analysis of how the passage connects to what you critically perceive as a theme of the story. Be careful, however, that you do not simply re-tell the events of the story; rather, choose the passage, re-type it at the beginning of your assignment (type it carefully; you are being graded on the whole paper) and then justify why your selection represents a theme the author is exploring on a broader scale of the story. Your paper should be written in the 3rd person, so be sure to avoid any 1st person subjective experiences.
You must choose your passage from one of three stories available in The Oxford Book of Science Fiction Stories anthology. Your selected passage must be no less than four lines; no more than fifteen lines.
