Sometimes a case study is desirable as an illustration of a class of criminals. Is Bernie Ebbers or Kenneth Lay representative of crooked CEO's? I choose to go with a case study of two serial killers (Ted Bundy and Richard Ramirez) and how they illustrate to be serial killers.
3. Just don't describe that criminal. Develop a thesis about that person's motivation, rationale, and social background. By thesis I mean a position or argument that tests an assumption about that class of offenders which my or may not hold up. For example I am always skeptical about imputing psychological hangups as reasons for criminal behavior. Can you say that the Unibomber was schizophrenic, and that was the reason why he killed three people and seriously wounded 29? I like arguments. Develop them supported by evidence gleaned from your library/internet research, lectures, and personal theorizing
4. Answer the question even if it is speculation on your part: How representative is that one offender you chose to write about to your knowledge in general of this form of Crime Typology? Indicate your personal and intellectual reasons for choosing this topic. For example, say you choose shoplifting among teenagers. Perhaps your interest stems from the fact that you were a shoplifter in your adolescence.
5. Be selective in choosing your sources. A minimum of 5 sources
6. Come up with a conclusion that includes(a) whether your original thesis holds up (b)what you learned
