Childhood Obesity Research Papers

Child obesity is a condition that merits major attention because it predisposes the child to the risks of premature illness, including cardiovascular, pulmonary and psychosocial conditions as well as the increased chance of premature death as an adult.  To this point, there is no completely effective method for treating obesity; however, researchers continue to search for the genetic, physiological and environmental factors that, when properly addressed, may contribute to the development of practical forms of treatment in the future.

In the realm of obesity research, there is currently an extensive body of literature.  Among this vast array of literature, there are numerous authors and researchers who have varying opinions about what causes obesity and what methods are best employed to treat it.  Therefore, in an attempt to analyze possible causes or sources of obesity in children, a categorical analysis of the three main suppositions (nutritional, familial and physiological factors) behind obesity will be considered.

Researchers have found that many children are taking in far too much fat in relation to carbohydrates and protein.  Physiological studies have shown that these high levels of fat undermine the body’s ability to regulate an individual’s weight.  Although the human body has the ability to increase rates of oxidation of carbohydrates and proteins when the intake of these nutrients is high, the increase in fat intake prohibits the body from establishing a fat balance with the other nutrients.
