Don’t Be An Adam Wheeler – Plagiarizer Extraodinaire

Adam Wheeler Palgiarizer

Adam Wheeler plagiarizes his way through life to prison

There is plagiarism and then there is PLAGIARISM! Adam Wheeler is the king of plagiarism, as he lied and forged his way through Harvard. The brilliant mind of Adam Wheeler was wasted on lying his way through just about every facet of his life. One must wonder what he was thinking and exactly how far did he think he could go with his ruse. At some point, someone expects a Harvard grad to actually perform and produce like a Harvard grad…or do they? Had he actually made it through Harvard, would he have made it outside the walls of academia? Probably…lets look at the evidence in his favor. Read more…

Term Paper Mill in Legal Hot Water, Again

Term Paper Mill

Term Paper Mills Crank Out Plagiarism

A 3 year legal battle is coming to a climax as the University of Wisconsin is getting their day in court with the term paper mill R2C2 Inc. R2C2 Inc. sells term papers on the internet without the consent of the author, which is blatant plagiarism. The law suite was filed in 2006 and is intended to put a halt to term paper mills on the internet. Term paper mills resell the same papers an infinite amount of times to students that either pay to join a service for access to a database of term papers or pay to download individual papers that are available from a database of 1000’s of pre-written term papers. Term paper mills meet the criteria for plagiarism at several levels, most notably, using an author’s works without their permission. The author’s of the term papers that are downloaded receive no credit or compensation for the term paper that is being sold, nor have they given permission for the term paper mill to sell their work. Pirate Bay Term Papers

Pirate Bay Term Papers

Pirate Bay will be a topic for Term Papers for a long time

One decade after the start of Napster, the world is still fighting over how to settle file sharing issues and Pirate Bay is the latest victim. Pirate Bay term papers have been ordered repeatedly for the past year at Paper Masters and we still get research paper orders for them weekly. (As term paper pimps, we can tell the hot topics for colleges just by how many orders we get on particular subjects. Thank God Sarah Palin never made it beyond an election campaign!) Anyway, Pirate Bay is such a hot topic that we thought you may want a brief primer on the nuances of intellectual property.

Napster raised significant issues regarding copyright law when it appeared on the public horizon. Napster created nothing short of an internet revolution. In 1999, a college student named Sean Fanning wanted to find an easier way to share music files. With his uncle, he started a company that involved P2P file sharing. P2P is peer to peer file sharing. P2P does not rely on clients or servers; instead the peers function as both clients and servers. Napster was extremely user-friendly and focused mainly on MP3 music files. College students often overloaded their university’s servers downloaded free music and making mixed CDs. No royalties were paid to the owners of the copyrights.

The first lawsuits against Napster began in 2000. Metallica discovered that one of their songs had been leaked to the website before its release. They sued. Dr. Dre had also asked that his material be removed. When it wasn’t, he also sued. Madonna had originally planned to work with the website, but when one of her singles was leaked to the website before its release, she retaliated with a lawsuit as well. The irony was that the lawsuits brought more attention to the website and millions more flocked to it, bringing more copyrighted material to the website and sharing more files. Read more…

Is Plagiarism Important? Just ask Coldplay

May 13th, 2009 No comments

Outside of plagiarism just being dead wrong, there are psychological issues involved with taking someone elses work. I’m always preaching anti-plagiarism and being careful about citing information. The resent accusations of plagiarism against Coldplay illustrate how delicate an issue plagiarism is for artists. Basically, Yusuf Islam, formerly Cat Stevens, is accusing Coldplay of stealing a guitar riff of his in the song Viva La Vida. Yusuf is a little sensative of this issue, as he has, in the past, accused several artists of plagiarism and sued one, The Flaming Lips. So Coldplay has a fight on their hands. Both sides are hurt and both sides think they are right. The only protection either side has is careful documentation of their own work, even as musicians.

Plagiarism is a serious offense and knowing how to avoid it is very important for college students. It follows you throughout your life, even if your rock stars. Lesson learned…document, document, document. Even if we are talking only 8 notes in a scale and only 7 different ones.

Grad Students Plagiarize…Accidentally

March 24th, 2009 No comments
George M. Bodner

George M. Bodner

A recent study by George M. Bodner, Ph.D, a chemistry Professor at Purdue University,  sought to elucidate why students cheat and what can be done about it. The results of the study revealed that students aren’t as devious as once thought, and that “cheating” often times comes as a result of ignorance on proper citation and what constitutes plagiarism. Bodner studied graduate students involved with LANGURE, a group of student and professors involved in developing model curriculum in the areas of science, engineering and various other fields. Results revealed that students at the graduate level have not been taught how to carefully edit, cite and evaluate their own written work. Bodner blames undergraduate professors for not assigning enough written work and then not taking the time to properly assess their student’s written work.

Many graduate level students look towards Paper Masters in order to avoid these issues of plagiarism. In a recent discussion with one graduate student that was looking to order a research paper, the student stated that the sole purpose for searching out help and a model research paper was to have a sample of exactly how to cite properly.

Citation is confusing but as Thomas Holmes, director of the American Chemical Society (ACS) Exams Institute,  stated in regards to Bodner’s study: “I usually tell students if it’s more than four words you better be quoting them”. Great advice to live and trust your academic career on when writing a research paper at any level.

Plagiarism in College Term Papers

January 29th, 2009 No comments

Plagiarism in academia is a misrepresentation of the authorship of someone else’s work. As for written work, Copyright law allows that once original text is written, copyright protects it. This allows an author to sell, lease or use her original material in any way she deems appropriate. Any writer, who willingly copies or uses another’s written work in any way without proper acknowledgement, puts himself at risk of dire consequences. He may also jeopardize the original author’s credibility and/or financial opportunities. Another cultural phenomenon that has rivaled the increase of student body populations in terms of the significance of the challenge to academic integrity has been the widespread advent of the Internet. Never before has such a wealth of data been available to be accessed by the general public. Although the implications of the Internet as an academic research tool are extremely beneficial, the inevitable downside of the Internet resources being exploited in various ways that defy the spirit of university academic misconduct policies.

The penalties for infractions against academic integrity can vary depending on the severity of the offense, ranging from a written warning placed in the student’s permanent school file to expulsion from the University. Plagiarism rides a razor’s edge that doesn’t always make a clean distinction between what plagiarism is and what it isn’t. Therefore it is up to individuals to discover the parameters of plagiarism in their institution or profession. The Internet offers over 500,000 sites on plagiarism and over 100,000 on plagiarism and the law, so ignorance of plagiarism’s consequences in inexcusable.

Term Paper Writing Services – The Good, The Bad and the Ugly

September 4th, 2008 2 comments

Term Paper Services Good Bad

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Term paper writing services are all over the internet – thousands of them to choose from – many that promise everything from guaranteed “A’s” to Harvard Professors writing your paper. How do you tell which term paper service to use and what is the difference between them? We can give you the low-down on the best of them and the worst – The Good, The Bad and the Ugly of term paper writing services.

There are two different kinds of term paper services – custom writing services and pre-written term paper services. We will look at the benefits and drawbacks of each and let you decide which is best for you.

The Good

The Good

The Good

Good Term Paper Services Custom writing services allow students to fill out an order form with exactly what they need. Meaning, you can paste the exact instructions from your professor in the order form and the company will write your paper according to every detail in your professor’s instructions. This ensures that your paper will be custom written because you can be as specific as you want to make certain the company doesn’t sell you something generic and already written.

The negative side of custom writing services is that they their research papers are more expensive than pre-written term papers. This is because a custom company has to hire a freelance writer to write your project. Freelance writers usually are paid anywhere from $10 to $17 per page for their services. So in order for a custom term paper company to turn a profit, they have to charge up-words $20 to $30 a page just to cover the writer and their operating costs!

The Bad

The Bad

The Bad

Bad Term Paper Services Pre-written term paper services were the rage of the internet 7 or 8 years ago. Thousands of papers would be cataloged online and a student could browse through the short descriptions and download an entire paper for $10! Even better, some services allowed students to sign up with them and download hundreds of papers for a monthly free. However, if a student is unwise and hands the paper in as his/her own, professor’s soon got wise to seeing the same paper semester after semester and began looking for a way to combat these companies. Enter TurnItIn.com – TurnItIn.com put an end to buying pre-written term papers online, as the service catalogs all database term papers in their database full of literally billions of pages of term papers.

The Ugly

The Ugly

The Ugly

Ugly Term Paper ServicesWhat turns ugly is when students use term paper services that do not sell original material and then unwisely hand the paper in as their own. TurnItIn.com catches all plagiarized term papers, including ones that students buy from database companies. They’ve been sold hundreds of times and a student gets caught in a Mexican Standoff between the Student, the Professor and Term Paper Company. The student blames the term paper company, the professor blames the student and the term paper company is the one left standing, with money in its pocket.

You can decide for yourself how you wish to utilize term paper services. They are fantastic resources for research, as long as you know the pitfalls. Custom companies cost more but you are safe from plagiarism issues. Database term paper services or pre-written term paper services work fine if you don’t fall to the temptation of handing the paper in as your own and use it only as a reference because their papers have been sold hundreds of times. The choice is yours but be sure to weigh “The Good”, “The Bad” and “The Ugly”.
