Chronicle “outs” Essay Mill

March 27th, 2009

In a lame bit of reporting by the Chronicle of Higher Education, author Thomas Bartlett “reports” the “shocking” news of “essay mills” being a global phenomena. Even more astounding, Bartlett acts as if it is news that these companies plagiarize what they call “custom” term papers. Furthermore, he asserts that these companies are growing rapidly and “becoming” international. Bartlett’s reporting is lame due to the fact that these companies have always been owned by foreign corporations, never sold anything but plagiarism and, in fact, they are actually dying out rather rapidly. Grad Students Plagiarize…Accidently

March 24th, 2009
George M. Bodner

George M. Bodner

A recent study by George M. Bodner, Ph.D, a chemistry Professor at Purdue University,  sought to elucidate why students cheat and what can be done about it. The results of the study revealed that students aren’t as devious as once thought, and that “cheating” often times comes as a result of ignorance on proper citation and what constitutes plagiarism. Bodner studied graduate students involved with LANGURE, a group of student and professors involved in developing model curriculum in the areas of science, engineering and various other fields. Results revealed that students at the graduate level have not been taught how to carefully edit, cite and evaluate their own written work. Bodner blames undergraduate professors for not assigning enough written work and then not taking the time to properly assess their student’s written work.

Many graduate level students look towards Paper Masters in order to avoid these issues of plagiarism. In a recent discussion with one graduate student that was looking to order a research paper, the student stated that the sole purpose for searching out help and a model research paper was to have a sample of exactly how to cite properly.

Citation is confusing but as Thomas Holmes, director of the American Chemical Society (ACS) Exams Institute,  stated in regards to Bodner’s study: “I usually tell students if it’s more than four words you better be quoting them”. Great advice to live and trust your academic career on when writing a research paper at any level.

Romantic Love the Best?

March 22nd, 2009

So a Twitter friend of mine has a research paper on whether or not Romantic Love is the best kind of love. Tough subject but not impossible. She’s having a hard time getting it started so, I want to illustrate how to get a tough research paper topic started. I began thinking “who in history can answer this question for me?”. Well, right away Mark Antony and Cleopatra came to mind as the ultimate couple in love. So I look up their story and here is what I find…Seems that Cleopatra was a bit of a hussy and really wasn’t that into Mark Antony. She completely used him. So here is my opening paragraph as to whether Romantic love is the best kind of love, based on historical fact:

Romantic love is one of the greatest feelings one can have but it is not the best kind of love there is. Romance can cloud the mind and even change the course of history, as Mark Anthony discovered when taken in by the Cleopatra VII of Egypt. Cleopatra VII of Egypt was the most powerful woman in the world eclipsing all of her namesakes that had come before her; no small feat since her name was commonly used by her Ptolemaic ancestors, who were originally Macedonians.  Born in Egypt in 69 B.C. the third of six children, she and her five siblings were in a life-and-death competition for the throne of Alexandria. To spare her life, she made the Great Caesar fall in love with her and ruled Egypt with him. When Egypt was threatened by Octavian and Mark Antony, Cleopatra worked her romantic majic on Mark Antony and, intuitively knowing how easily impressed he could be, she answered his summons to appear in Turkey by assembling the most splendid display of wealth possible, making  the most fashionable entrance of the history of the civilized world.  Romance novelists could not possibly have written a story more passionate or tragic.  Upon seeing her entourage, and passing some time in her company, Antony fell completely in love with her, so in love that he fathered three children with her and bequeathing parts of the Roman Empire to her kingdom to split among their children. Romantic love led these men into the spider web of Cleopatra; romantic love clouds the mind and falls short of purity and goodness of true love.

Term papers for English as a Second Language (ESL) students can be extremely difficult. It is one thing to speak English but, as one of the most grammatically complex languages in the world, writing a term paper is another story. To have your term paper judged on the same level as someone that grew up reading, writing and speaking English is daunting. Paper Masters can show you how to make term paper writing easy if you are an ESL student. Read more…
