Compose an essay on Beloved by Toni Morrison. The report should be a characterization on a central character. Character = Halle
The book report should not retell the story or summarize the plot. Halle knows that the voice of slavery could sound kind, but still it was slavery. He explained to Sethe that Garner profited more by having him work out debts than by having his mother work the last ten years to her death. It was for his good, and not Halle’s or Baby’s that he allowed her freedom to be bought. Halle did not think that Garner’s announcing them men, only because he deemed them so, was what made them men.
Morrison uses this example to counter those people who would assert that not all slaves had a horrible life.
