INTRODUCTION
The introduction needs to be specific enough that you show that you have read some of the research literature in your area of interest and that you have narrowed the focus so that you can identify gaps in the existing literature. It is based on existing research, but you need to go further so that you are not repeating research that has already been done, but rather you are adding new information about the area by doing your proposed study.

USE OF THEORY
In the theory section of your paper, you need to focus on an actual psychological theory (not on general approaches such as inductive/deductive or quantitative/qualitative or constructivist/essentialist). Some examples are social learning theory, object relations theory, attachment theory, humanistic psychology theory, cognitive behavioral theory. • Given the research question, consider the best approach (quantitative or qualitative) to this question.

• Create a document that has three clearly defined sections (listed below) and that totals no more than 3 pages in length.
• Introduction. Write an introduction to your research prospectus. The introduction should consist of:

  • The studies that have addressed the problem (literature review)

  • The importance of the study for the audience The introduction should be brief (1–2 pages), although in your actual thesis/dissertation, this would compose an entire chapter. Your introduction should integrate the findings of the studies you have read and not simply report each study independently. That is, resist the desire to report on each study in a separate paragraph and work to present the larger picture of your area of interest to your reader.
  • This integration should clearly highlight some of what is known in your area of interest as well as identify a gap or opportunity to expand upon or extend the research.
  • Use of Theory. In this section, identify and explain the theory that will be guiding/informing your thesis/dissertation (quantitative) or how theory will be used in your thesis/dissertation (qualitative).
